Hey everyone! I’m currently a senior at the IU School of Journalism at
IUPUI and I’m also an intern at the Humane Society of Indianapolis
(IndyHumane). Staying involved and giving back to the Indianapolis
community is sort of a passion of mine. So, for the duration of my blogging
days here, allow me to guide you through my experiences and available
opportunities at local not-for-profit organizations!
Getting involved in local nonprofit organizations is one of the strongest
forms of positive PR. It’s important to choose an organization that fits
with the values of you/your company.
For example: I’m a sister of Phi Mu Fraternity. Our open values are “love,
honor, truth”. For years, Phi Mu has partnered with Children’s Miracle
Network (CMN) to provide fundraising dollars to help sick children and
their families. Because we are a compassionate group of young women who
want to make a difference, Riley Hospital, located on our campus, fits
PERFECTLY with our values. We single-handedly host 2 fundraisers on the
IUPUI campus each school year. Many students/staff see these unique events
(36-hour Teeter-Totter-A-Thon and Miracle Pancake Breakfast) and we are
currently the largest organization on campus…partly due to these
fundraisers. Talk about some really positive PR!
Stay tuned for resources that can help you get involved in Indianapolis!
